Since
the age of 5 Oona wanted to be an MP or Prime Minister.
Her wishes were granted.
Born
to a black American father and white Jewish mother, Oona kept on a straight
path and landed her first job to success in Brussels, working as a political
assistant to the European Parliment. Oona spent 5 years working there
for Labour MEP's, then left her position to become a Race Equality Officer
with the General and Municipal Boilermakers (GMB) trade union. In 1987
Oona King became the 2nd black woman MP after Diane Abbott.
In
may 1997 Labour won a landslide victory in the General Elections this
gave Oona the chance to be heard and recognised as an MP
