LINTON
KWESI JOHNSON
Reggae Artist and Poet
Linton Kwesi Johnson is best known for his well renowned reggae and
poetry. Linton was born in Jamaica and came to London in 1963 where
he soon attended the Tulse Hill Secondary school in south London. His
interests in poetry, politics, music and sociology had developed from
an early age and was the building block to a flourishing career.
While still at
school he joined the political cival rights party the Black Panthers,
helping to organise a poetry workshop within the movement. He then went
on to build a highly successful and diverse career in music and poetry
which has spanned 3 decades. He has recently become an alumnus at Goldsmiths
College, part of the University of London.
HIs
latest offering is a book entitled Mi Revalueshanary Fren published
as part of Penquin Modern Classics. It features poerty spanning his
career.

Johnson has published five volumes of poetry and released 12 albums.
In
1981 he launched his own record label, LKJ Records.

Received
an honorary fellowship from Goldsmiths College on September the 4th
2003 after studying sociology.
