Denise
Lewis is one of the UK's greatest females athletes. A female equivalent
to Daley Thompson a queen of the heptathlon.
Born on the 27th August 1972 in Birmingham to a single Mother, life
was difficult however Denise did have a passion for sports especially
athletics. Her passion for athletics progressed from winning English
School titles to becoming Olympic Hepthathlon Champion in year 2000.
Denise first came to the attention of the Mass Media when in 1994
she won the Commonwealth Games by beating hot favourite Austrialia's
Jane Fleming. Since winning the 1996 Commonwealth Games Heptathlon
Denise has won all the major titles apart from the World Championships.
Her greatest achievement has been winning the Sydney 2000 Olympics
Heptathlon title. Her leg heavily strapped from two days of intensive
competition and with a bad injury Denise still had the courage to
complete the 800 metres and win the Olympic title.
Since the Olympic Games Denise has had a daughter with her partner
Belgium Sprinter Patrick Stevens, and has changed coaches from Charles
Von Commenee to Frank Dick. Denise has also faced heavy criticism
for having Dr Ekaert as her technical advisor, the former East German
Coach was involved in the drug cheating scandal of the l990's.
Denise's Final aims in athletics are this summer's forthcoming World
Championships in Paris and the Olympic Games in Greece. Denise has
received an MBE, and does modelling outside the Sport. Her achievements
in athletics has been an inspiration to the Black Community, and
has also helped raise the profile of one of the sport's most difficult
events.

Denise has graced the covers of many publications and featured
in the Power and Beauty calender with other athletes.
