COLIN JACKSON
Athlete
Colin
Jackson has been at the forefront of British Athletics for the past 15
years.
He is one of the greatest sportsman to emerge from Wales. Although he
has now retired, he still has many unbeaten records under
his belt.
Born in Cardiff, on the 18th of February 1967. Colin's rise to fame began
when he won the European Junior 110m Hurdles title in 1985. He has since
progressed to winning titles in every major championship both indoors
and Outdoors. But the Olympic gold medal has still eluded him. The 1992
Olympics in Barcelona was the most turbulent experience of his Athletics
career. He was the pre-event favourite for the 110m Hurdles but he struck
a hurdle very heavily and finished a disappointing seventh.
Colin has been capped over 70 times for Great Britain and he still holds
the World Indoor and Outdoor records, 7.30 for 60 metres and 12.91 for
the 110m Hurdles .Colin has succeeded in Birmingham by winning the World
Indoor 60m. It will add another title to a long list of achievements from
one Britain greatest ever hurdlers.
Colin received an MBE in1990 and has won many more awards for his achievements
in the hurdles.
He has now retired from athletics, his final race was at the World Indoors
Championships in Birmingham. His new conquests have been presenting and
encouraging children to get into athletics. He sites Daley
Thompson as his ultimate hero.
