Of State
Paul
Boateng started in politics by becoming a member of parliament for Brent
South in North west London. he was appointed Parliamentary Under secretary
of State at the Department of health, becoming the first black person
to hold ministerial office in her Majesty's Government. In 1998 he became
the Minister of State for Home Affairs.
Paul
was Born In east london in 1951,and is the son of a former Ghanaion
cabinet Minister called Kwaku. Kwaku came to England in the fifties
from Ghana to study law at university where he met Paul's mother who
was a teacher at the time.
At the age of 3 Paul was taken to Ghana to live but at 15 Paul's family
were forced to leave after a military Coup in 1966. His father was thrown
into jail without trial as a political prisoner. Not only losing their
dignity, they also lost their property and their friends too. Paul and
his family set up home on a british council housing estate in Hemel
Hempstead. This
standard of living was so much different from the exciting experiences
Paul had in Ghana. Despite being the only black boy in school this didn't
deter him from going on to study at the Bristol University in Law. After
graduating Paul became a solicitor in 1975.
